Unusual solution of biplane bomber. One tractor propeller (140hp Salmson engine) in the nose and two pusher propellers (80hp Rhone engines) between the wings. Rear protection was provided by gunner in the fuselage (behind the pilot), front - by two gunners in Rhone engines nacells.
The idea was to deliver bombs to the target (up to 3.5 hours) using all three engines, and return using only main central engine. Its power was more than sufficient, thanks bombs are released and a lot of fuel burned.
But real aircraft appeared 327kg overweight. Aircraft was broken in first flight June 23, 1916. Tail section and pusher propellers were damaged when tail skid broke during landing. It was decided that radical modifications are required, and Anatra DE was abandoned.
