Based on the BICh-7A, the BICh-17 was designed as a dedicated heavy armed fighter. It carried two 80mm recoilless cannons in wings, out of the propeller arch. Aircraft was designed within the USR NKTP under initiative of L.V.Kurchevski.
Strong structure of wide wing was favorable for powerful weapon installation. Wing had gull-shape (5° at (half-wingspan) to improve in-flight stability. Landing gear was retractable. All-wooden construction.
Aircraft was 60% ready, when in February 1936 the USR was disbanded and all projects were cancelled.
