One of the best fighters of its time, D-XI saw service with may air forces. About 200 were purchased by Russian Federation (USSR was not there yet). In order to keep this aircraft in operation special repair shops and rebuilding facilities were built.
D-XI was used in strifing role during clashes with Chinese forces on KVZhD (China-Eastern railroad), 1929.
