'Delphin', 'Flying Fish' by V.V.Dybovskij

16k b/w drawing "History of aircraft construction in the USSR", Vol.1 p.116

Monoplane of very advanced design, built in Riga at 'Motor' factory. Landing gear support and tailskid were integrated with fuselage. Fuselage itself had no single straight line. Engine was completely cowled inside fuselage, spinner also was made flush with fuselage.

Large wheels were of aerodynamically clean construction. Another unusual for 1913 feature was a wing - it was swept forward.

Design was superior to all aircraft presented at 3rd Military Aircraft contest, but poor performance of engine did not allow the aircraft to complete contest program. Despite of pilot talent and skills of its designer.
