Two-seat version of the I-3. DI-2 had same powerplant, rear gunner cockpit with twin machinegun turret, increased tailfin and 8° 'V' tailplane.
Increased weight resulted in significant performance loss, but luck of competing designs paved way for small series production of DI-2. Production was cancelled after pilot A.V.Chekarev was killed when DI-2 lost tailplane to flutter during high speed dive trials.
DI-2 was not perfect, but it provided some room for modifications. Following DI-3 turned to be even worser...
