Arkadij D.Shvetsov started tests of the M-62 in the 1937 at the GAZ-19 aero-engine plant (Perm).
With same capacity as the M-25V, the M-62 rated at takeoff power 1000hp in comparison with 775hp of the M-25V. It used higher octane fuel (92) and was 46kg heavier than the M-25V.
