The I-215 was a modification of the I-211 with imported Rolls Royce Dervent engines. Because of the engine installation in mid-wing nacelles, this could be done fairly easily. After some redesign to strengthen the wing, the I-215D was accepted for production.
However, the S.M.Alexeev bureau was disbanded for political reasons, and the I-215 abandoned.
