I-221, '2A' A.I.Mikoyan/M.I.Gurevich

This aircraft of the I-220 family was powered by new AM-39A engine, combined with pair of TK-2B superchargers. Powerplant performed well, at altitudes above 13000m. Aircraft was equipped with pressure cockpit.

First flown on December 2, 1943 by pilot P.A.Zhuravlev. Factory tests were not completed due to crash.
