Almost identical to I-230/D/MiG-3U but with AM-39 engine and all-metal fuselage.
Performance improved, but the engine failed to enter mass production and aircraft remained experimental. It was the last aircraft with MiG-1/I-200 size airframe. Further improvement of performance required more powerful engines and increased size of the aircraft.
