Once cause of IL-400a crash was revealed, aircraft was radically rebuilt. Engine was moved forward, front radiator was replaced by Lamblen radiator. Wing span and tail surfaces area were increased. Wooden structure of the wing ant tail surfaces were made now completely of aluminum alloy ('Kolchugaluminij').
Aircraft rolled out during Spring 1924. After series of flight tests (pilots A.I.Zhukov and A.N.Ekatov) it was accepted for series production.
