Prototype of close support bomber, reconnaissater, escort aircraft developed within contest project 'Ivanov' (1937- 1938). Fuselage had plywood (3-2mm thick) construction. It was assembled from left and right halves glued together, covered with fabric and polished. Wing with steel 2T-profiled spars covered with 0.8mm duralumin. Assembly technic provided very clean surface.
Main gear and tailwheel were retractable (pneumatically). Aircraft was very well armed.
Aircraft was finished at the end of 1938. It passed tests as reconnaissater and bomber, but did not enter production because Neman R-10 was preferred.
Polikarpov's aircraft was 20km/h slower, but had better range and much more powerful armament.
Two were built with slightly different armament and equipment, only one was flown.
