Layout similar to BIS-1, BIS-2 and other early I.I.Sikorsky aircraft. Introduction of some novelties (such as wing struts of oval cross-section, more advanced controls) allowed to show better performance than 'prototypes' - in 1911 S.S.Gromov performed 22 minutes flight, reaching altitude 100m.
Flights were performed both straight and circle.
The 'Karpeka-1bis' was rebuilt 'Karpeka-1'. Tail frame was replaced by thin rectangular fuselage. Another pair of ailerons was added between the upper and lower wings. Several flights were performed.
