Speed drop for Type 4 took place due to poor quality assembly during first months of the war;

Production :

• 1941 - 2463, from those 2141 - after the invasion;
• 1942 - 2771, late this year - in parallel with La-5;
• 1943 - 1294

Attack versions (11 and 23 Series), armed with rockets and bombs had speed drop ~25km/h; 23 series had new rudder and some other minor differences;

28 Series was a small batch to test retractable tailwheel;

33 Series had new propeller with slightly re-shaped spinner and slightly different rudder (improved hinges);

34 Series (fall 1942) carried 37mm NS-37 weapon with 20 rounds. Intended for anti-tank missions, it had worser flying characteristics due to cannon weight. Fuselage damage by severe recoil also was a restriction. Only one production batch rolled out...

35 Series was equipped with automatic slats (previously tested on 22 Series) to improve stall/landing characteristics, also differed by retractable tailwheel;
