Close range maritime reconnaissater of wooden construction, intended to replace the MBR-2. It had similar layout, but smaller (wing area was just a half of the MBR-2). Fuselage was very clean, more powerful engine drive larger VISh-2PT propeller.
Armament included one turret-mounted ShKAS machinegun behind the wing and fixed ShKAS in front of pilot's cockpit. Four FAB-100 and two FAB-50 could be carried under the wing.
Flight performance was very good, but handling on takeoff and landing was very problematic.
No series production.
TsKBMS-8 is internal bureau designation, in some documents 'clipped' to MS-8.
