Flying boat, the second MDR-4. Its construction was accelerated after crash of the first aircraft. Designation MTB was used to reflect aircraft naval torpedo-bomber assignment.
MTB-1 was ready for trials in January 1935, but various delays resulted in first taking place only in May. Aircraft was presented on State Acceptance Trials only on June 6...
Quite a poor performance was demonstrated. But such an aircraft was badly needed. Production started yet before all tests were performed. As a result service career of the MTB-1 started with the accident - first production aircraft crashed when fabric was torn of the wing. Later another crash took place...
Aircraft was in service for several years as a reconnaissater and torpedo-bomber, but production was very limited. Not a surprise.
15 built in 1936 and 10 in 1937.
