OPB stays for Odnomotornyj Pikirujuschij Bombardirovschik, single-engine dive bomber. Low-wing monoplane with inverse gull wing. Single 500kg bomb is hidden in fuselage, attached to the parallelogram support. Before release it is moved out of the propeller arc.
Construction - composite. Wing spars - steel/duralumin, front section of fuselage - duralumin, tail section - plywood. Tailplane and fin - duralumin, elevators and rudder - with fabric cover.
Cooling air was supplied to the engine by central air intake (like on early Fw-190 prototypes). Fuel tanks - protected.
Project started in 1938 for the M-90 engine. Aircraft was finished in 1941, but the powerplant was not ready. Team started to re-engine OPB-5 for available M-82A, but in the beginning of 1942 project was cancelled and design bureau was disbanded.
