Pe-2 on skis, V.M.Petlyakov

To improve winter operation single Pe-2 was built with retractable skis. Construction was successful - retraction mechanics worked fine, retracted skis were flush with engine nacells.

Modification never entered production because low pressure tires used on Soviet aircraft were good for landing on snow-cowered fields - while 'takeoff skis' served perfectly for loaded aircraft takeoff.

Speed loss was 40km/h, ceiling - 500m.
