Single-seat high altitude interceptor, developed from Pe-2 bomber by A.I.Putilov. Aircraft was equipped by pressurized cockpit designed by A.I.Putilov. It was actually a whole nose section, wielded of aluminum-magnesium alloy on internal frame.
New VK-105PD engine with high altitude superchargers (design by V.A.Dollezhal) supposed to push Pe-2VI to 12000m altitude, but failed. Aircraft was returned to factory for modification.
It was also tried with similar pressurized cabin by A.Ya.Scherbakov.
Remained experimental.
