Pe-3 was an fighter-interceptor developed from the Pe-2 dive bomber, special for the Moscow PVO district. Grid airbrakes were removed. Experimental aircraft differed from series by two defensive ShKAS machineguns and one ShKAS in the nose.
Pe-3 was replaced in production by more advanced (and better armed) Pe-3bis.
Only 23 were built.
