Porokhovschikov-6, A.A.Porokhovschikov

Picture (20k) from "History of aircraft construction in the USSR", Vol.1 p.201

Trainer biplane of archaic design. Similar to Porokhovschikov-5, but with strengthened undercarriage. First aircraft had ribs and skin removed in the center section of the upper wing (as shown on photo above) for unrestricted view. Performance was below any acceptance - ceiling only 200 m!

In following Porokhovschikov-6bis this 'modification' was deleted, and aircraft flew well. It soon became obvious that with simplified wing 'box' (less struts and wires) and normal fuselage instead tail frame speed may be increased by 20-30km/h.

40 built, in service until 1923.
