Specialized high-altitude interceptor. Standard armament for pre-WWII fighter with liquid cooled engine: cannon firing through the propeller shaft and pair of synchronized machineguns. Fuselage was made of wood, wings - duralumin. Main landing gear - retractable backwards with 90° turn, tailwheel also retractable.
Aircraft was flown since August 1940. It performed very well, but TK-2 turbochargers were faulty and failed to deliver before the German invasion.
Turbochargers problems and bureau evacuation resulted in cancellation of the Su-1.
One built.
