Improved T-3 fighter-interceptor. Same airframe got new adjustable supersonic air intake, accommodating TsD-30T radar. A lot of other equipment was also upgraded. Four guided R-2US (K-51) were installed.
More powerful AL-7F-1 engine and improved airdynamic of T-43 compared to T-3 made it a good performer.
Specially prepared T-43-1 (first T-43??) was used by pilots V.S.Ilyushin and A.A.Koznov to set series of world records :
On September 10, 1957 test-pilot V.S.Ilyushin took off on the first series T-43, which will enter service under designation Su-9.
